FOR DAD Kath Bonson Bradford |

For Dad Children showed me their laughter and I felt happy, My lover gave me his heart and I felt warm. But you, you with your pain shrouded tight around you, You laughed and joked and smiled But the ice held firm behind your eyes. Sometimes as I watched when you did not observe me I would see the pain and care seep out and furrow your brow I would feel the piercing draught from your icy heart Pain and care written bold for all who wished to read it And my heart would softly weep for you within. But then once more the mask would swiftly rise and 'guise you A rueful smile and on once more with life and work Children showed you their laughter and you seemed happy Lovers showed you their hearts and you seemed warm But still I could see the icy wall within and my heart cracked.
