LET IT LIE

Joanna Weston

Shawnigan Lake, BC
LET IT LIE

our past lies in the back lane
in a garage-sale
where a stranger
perhaps a monk from Thailand
or a miner from Nunavut
fingers the unbraided ends
as they lie
wilted and tangled
the stranger admires
oceans twined together
pulls a strand
and a tsunami breaks
rolls over town
breaking houses
in a tide
of blue fish
