The C H A I R

R N Taber

London

Strong legs, firm back
cushion on the seat
waiting for someone to sit,
maybe compose a letter,
strum on a guitar,
ponder things as they were
or how they are,
think about family, friends
near and far,
wonder about promises
made, broken,
excuses for not reaching
a decision,
salvage aspiration, rummage
inspiration,
rush to judgement, proceed
with due care;
Though room for one only,
plenty to share
in the autobiography
of a chair
