VULNERABILITY
At the age of thirteen
youth conflates the blossoms
of wildflowers and flesh
that touch each other like
liturgy breathed inside
summer's votive candles.
Here we deceived ourselves
into exquisite fields
the Virginia sun played
- that voyeur-god above -
as if to suck from us
Eve's first scent of Adam.
