Before the Sky

Matthew Fishler

Studio City, CA

Before the Sky

The vast open plain
of the bluish-white sky
gives birth to a language
that speaks the world.

From the perch of a lighthouse,
to gaze upon the flare of the world
is to behold the otherness
of its watching you
from behind a veil of colored rings;
stillness has a cast.

Waiting is silent;
sky is music in absence.
Thought turns in orbits.
Possibility is hovering,
holding back
in some weightless enclave.
