STORY IN SOHO

Suzy Nelson

Los Osos, CA

Story in Soho

The sun blankets itself with clouds

and sleeps
and orange petaled poppies
planted neatly in window boxes
bow in the rain.
The sun barely seeps through
clouds of chromium steel
creating a watercolor arc
over imaginary mountains
that are purple and clustered
together.

Old tap dancing men,
still with plenty of stuff
go zzzzooo with nimble telescopic legs
on puddled city streets.
Dancing men,
their old shiny suits of mahogany.
Battered hats turned over on wet pavement
catching stray quarters,
tell of their ties to history
with alcohol slurred voices.
Waving thin arms, choreographing
the detail.
