"WANT TO BE IN A MOVIE?"

question from the subject line of a mass email

Let me be the scorned lover cloaked by fedora & New York Times
on a park bench opposite the French cafe. Close-up: sullen eyes
raccoon-black with sleeplessness. Pull away. I sit pretending
to read an article on infidelity. Flashback: tender hours. No,
raging hours mad with self-indulgence, lust & cigarettes.
Autumn scene: see us break our vows atop a crackling leaf-
bed (I bite blood from her bottom lip, she knifes stripes across my back).
Cut to when she told me "love": I grinned, bent to breathe warm circles
near a willing nipple as though with brush-stokes edging paint
around an outlet. Present (tense): across the street,
she emerges next to HIM-- a stockbroker with slicked-back hair,
gray suit & ash-box tie. Zoom in on lipstick-glossy hot-pink
blouse unbuttoned at the top, straight champagne hair
not tussled, meaning the sex is still to come. Pan toward me,
rising unhurried & wandering ghostlike through a dream.
Slow fade as I walk out of the script not to return.
